Change to membership rules -

Membership Fee Innovation – The management Committee has recently decided that where a new member expresses his intention to place his/her car on Concessional Registration on joining the ROAQ, he/she will be required to commit to an initial membership period of two years by paying the first two years of subscription at time of joining.

This has been prompted by a general concern throughout the classic car movement that owners have been joining a club for the sole reason of obtaining the club membership required by Queensland Transport in order to take out Concessional Registration. Many of these owners have been then allowing their membership to lapse while still renewing their Concessional Registration each year.*

While this requirement appears to be overlooked by Queensland Transport when registrations are renewed, we feel that, as the ROAQ has originally authenticated the eligibility of the vehicle for Concessional Registration purposes, we have some obligation to be seen to be doing what we can to see that at least the spirit of the Qld. Transport registration requirements are maintained. The two year commitment will establish the new member’s bona fides and also provide some compensation to our Association for the time and effort put in by members who have to issue the necessary authentication and inspect cars for this purpose.

* It is a requirement of Queensland Transport that an owner must be a financial member of a car club in order to enjoy the privilege of Concessional Registration. Unfortunately, since QT does not check for club membership at the time of registration renewal, an owner with Concessional Registration does not have to maintain club membership, but may allow membership to lapse and not subsequently join any club at all.
